Bev to Charlotte: Drop dead?

Democrat Bev Perdue is maintaining a small lead over Charlotte Mayor Pat McCrory in the governor's race with a week to go in the latest Public Policy Polling survey. Analyst Tom Jensen says the Perdue campaign has make a clear decision that it's willing to risk alienating voters in Charlotte-Mecklenburg -- hearkening up memories of a famous tabloid headline from 1975 when President Ford refused bailout money for an ailing New York City. The New York Daily News headline: "Ford to City: Drop dead."

Here's Jensen's analysis, in its entirety:

Bev Perdue 47
Pat McCrory 44
Michael Munger 5

Bev Perdue's campaign has made a clear calculus that they're willing to tick off Charlotte voters if it allows them to rack up the kind of margins they need to win in eastern North Carolina. Right now it seems to be working.

One of the biggest things that has kept Perdue from running away with this race is that Pat McCrory has consistently shown a huge lead in the polls in greater Charlotte, including major in roads with white Democrats, that Perdue has not been able to match in her home base of eastern North Carolina. Perdue has worked hard to shore up her support in Charlotte, but McCrory has consistently led the polls there by double digits.

So about two weeks ago it seems Perdue's campaign became heavily focused on the east. First she started running effective ads on Yankee trash, an issue that hits home much harder east of I-95 than it does anywhere else. Her newest set of ads attack McCrory for a Charlotte first mentality: if there was no inherent anti-Charlotte bias with voters outside the state of Mecklenburg, it seems, the Perdue campaign is trying to create one.

How's it all working? In the two polls before this new strategy Perdue led by an average of 48-42 in eastern North Carolina. In the two polls since her average lead is up to 54-38, including a new high of 56-36 in this week's poll. We project eastern North Carolinians to cast around 28-30% of the vote for Governor, so a ten point increase in her lead in that region gives her an extra three points statewide. That's huge in a tight race.

Of course folks in Charlotte aren't necessarily thrilled with Perdue's strategy. In the two polls before she started actively courting the east she trailed by an average of 52-41 there. In the last two she trails by an average of 53-39, with her 53-36 deficit this week the largest she's shown in Charlotte in a long time. So she's lost 3-4 points in a region of the state that will cast about 20% of the vote. That costs her a point statewide.

Forsaking a point in Charlotte to pick up three in the east? Could make the difference in a close race.

When was the last time that we had a Western NC governor?

Anonymous said...

The last western NC governor was Jim Holshouser (R) from Boone. He was elected in the Nixon landslide in 1972. Holshouser beat favored Democrat Hargove "Skipper" Bowles from Greensboro. Jim Martin (R), elected in 1984 lived on Lake Norman and had a Mooresville address.

Perdue has raised/spent $15m to McCrory's $3m! Got wonder where all that money is coming from....

I hope everyone will go out and vote for Pat McCrory. Not only is he the best thing for Charlotte, but also for the state as a whole. This race has a far greater impact on our daily lives (our local economy, school, infrastructure, safety, etc) than the POTUS campaign.

Bev has statewide experience and the gravitas (not always apparent in debates) to take this state in a fundamentally new and positive direction. She will be in Charlotte quite often (monthly, at least) when she's Governor. The QUEEN City needs to get over it, and its huge edifice complex.

A vote for PAT is a vote for PROGRESS!!! We can't let Bev win.

Anonymous said...

You said it right, White male democrats may be behind Pat McCrory but it has been evident that he is not for all people, just those with money and live in south Charlotte. I wouldn't vote for him if he were the only one running. To prove you can't judge a book by its cover, Pat appears to be a fair and intelligent person, but he has shown different, even when it comes to such minor things like committee appointments on Charlotte City Council. Its time to put away the petty racial predjudices and work together through these hard economic times. Talk about pork barrel spending, look at the waste the city under his leadership has spent, one article in the Observer says that we may have more potholes because of the high cost of asphalt, but we spend millions on a NASCAR Museum and doggie parks, this is really leadership at its best. Its like George W bankrupted Texas and now the good ole US of A, Pat McCrory is just a minor league George W. Bush. I am a Republican that is sick and tired of being sick and tired. I'm voting Democrat, call it like I see it.

The article was how Bev Perdue is pitting eastern NC vs. Charlotte.

I agree Bev will take this state in a fundamentally new direction, but positive?

PPP is a Democratic poll. Anyone who wants real polling data should go to Realclearpolitics.com. Pat is actually up in all the other polls. She is only up in the PPP poll. I believe the whole article runs with the assumption that she is leading- she's not! Not a very well written Observer article.

Who is We and how did you come to those numbers? How does We define eastern NC? Just curious.

And Bev Perdue has gravitas? She has many things but I don't know if I'd give her that.

Something to think about when discussing polls:

First, polls can be constructed to get the conclusion the pollster wants to obtain. I do not have a lot of respect for PPP, so I have included the Rasmussen results below along with my analysis of PPP’s polling information.

Rasmussen has McCrory +4 as of 10/23.

PPP has leaned more Democratic the entire election as they overload their polls with Democrats.

See statistics below, at first glance it may seem that the poll has overloaded both Dems and Reps, but remember that a lot of people who registered 20 or 30 years ago, chose to register Dem., so that they could participate in primaries, but never vote Dem during the general election.

This fact, which is well noted, means the actual % of registered Democrats is overstated and % of Reps is understated. How much? You have to look at historical voting figures. What ever the figure turns out to be, it will be below 45%. Say the actual Democratic turnout is 43%, which may result in a 5% swing towards McCrory that takes this poll from Bev +3 to McCrory +2, just based on the change in the political makeup of the population.

Statistics:

Actual NC makeup: Dems: 45%, Rep: 32%, Ind: 22%, Lib: 1%

PPP Population: Dems: 48%, Rep: 35%, Ind: 17%

Mike,

We in the article is referring to PPP. I'm sure they have selected various parts of the state to include in the sampling population and have that information documented somewhere (I didn’t see it in the internals).

I would also like to know what is considered Eastern NC. I would say anything east of Orange County.

I'm a democrat but I early voted for Pat McCrorey. The problem with most of our state officials is that they refuse to belive that North Carolina goes east of Burlington. This is why raleigh, fayetteville and greenville have great roads while we are still waiting for the conpletion of I-485. McCrorey will at least bring some tax dollars back to Charlotte and the other high growth areas of the state, not the dying parts east of I-95.

Anonymous said...

Screw Bev....she comes from the Mike Easley camp (enter shuddering and vomit here) and has nearly bankrupt NC... Give ole' Pat a shot, at least he will spend money appropriately...maybe the eastern part of the state needs a professional ice skating rink or maybe a world class poker training facility highlighted by light rail. Seems like the choice is between more of the same or more of Charlotte... either way we lose. GO MUNGER!

Justin said...

Regardless of presidential politics, Perdue has made it very, very evident that Charlotte is only a blip on her radar. If Charlotteans ever want I-485 completed or want the lights replaced on I-277, it will only happen if McCrory is elected.

12:53: What racial prejudices do you speak of?

Matt M said...

That is a really biased headline. Why didn't you just say 'Bev to Charlotte - Get F##KED?'

Must you guys at the Observer be so partial? Are you making brownie points with someone? Is someone keeping score?

Anonymous said...

I voted McCrory for these 3 reasons:

1) Perdue seems like an idiot.

2) It's about time we had a governor that wasn't from the eastern part of the state that only cared about Raleigh

3) Perdue was LT Gov and involved in the Easley mess.

I'm a diehard Democrat and Charlotte resident with no love of Pat McCrory. He's divisive (like the good Republican he is), short-tempered and has been an ardent supporter of President Bush, which automatically causes me to lose respect for the man.

On the other hand, I have no great love for Bev Perdue and the fact that she's doing that lame anti-Charlotte thing so prevelant from Down East types who can't walk down the sidewalk without stepping in tobacco spit.

The fact of the matter is the NC governorship is one of the weakest in the country (much like the Charlotte mayor position) and there's very little Mayor Pat could do for us here in Charlotte even if he got elected. The rural eastern mumbly-mouthed types control the legislature in this state, and thus the purse strings. If I thought that he could actually make sure Charlotte got its fair share of money from Raleigh, I'd probably hold my nose and vote for him.

I am from Charlotte but grew up in Eastern NC and it never ceases to amaze me how provincial the people of Charlotte are! They think Charlotte is the Center of the Universe and they have no need for the rest of the state. Our needs always come first. Well the rest of NC has a great need for roads and services also and Charlotte does gets its fair share. Learn to live with it. Perdue '08!!

Educate yourself for crying out loud. Drive down east in those endless flat pine and sandflea covered wastelands of eastern NC and tell me why you need so many freeways and 4-lane highways going from nowhere to nowhere else? Take the time to learn about how the road-building money in this state has to (by law) be divided inappropriately with a certain share going to rural areas that don't need them while urban areas are choking on traffic. We can't even get the state of NC to keep our street lights working in Meckleburg County but if anyone dares to complain about it, they're "provincial." Provincial, my friend, is you bumpkins in the Down East wilderness who think YOU'RE the center of the state's universe!

Anonymous said...

Personally, I would vote for anyone running against Pat McCrory. A politician who ignores the voice of the people is not one that I would vote for. (Does anyone remember the vote on building a new basketball stadium that McCrory ignored??)

Anonymous said...

This sounds like a blatant attempt to get Charlotte voters to vote for McCory by any means necessary. Perdue(D) is a better choice than McCory (R). Perdue(D) has statewide experience and can take the state in a new and positive direction. Yes, We Can. It's time for Change.

Anonymous said...

Maybe mayor Pat can get his buddy Bush to campaign for him again so Perdue will win easily.

Stuart said...

riverrd,

So you think it is fair for Charlotte to pay for another part of the state's roads when our roads are in bad shape?

I would call it wealth redistribution, but that would imply that the distribution was to make everyone equal. In this case, the poor (Eastern NC) has better roads than the rich (Charlotte). Please explain that to me.

Anonymous said...

You want to know why Eastern NC hates McCrory? Remember a little thing called Hurricane Floyd? When eastern NC was under water and truly suffering a major crisis, our dear mayor traveled in a private jet to the legislature DEMANDING money for his basketball arena. He marched into the General Assembly, threw his temper tantrum and walked out. Since then he's not gotten the time of day from the legislature. That's why our roads are bad, that's why we can't get funding from Raleigh.

Stuart said...

I lived in Eastern North Carolina for 5 years while I went to college and my wife grew up there. The hate was long there before your Floyd and basketball arena excuse or McCrory for that matter.

Why don't you just blame McCrory for the financial crisis and gas crisis?

Get your head out of the sand and go educate yourself.

As an Obama supporter, democrat and 15-year Charlottean, I will be voting for Republican Pat McCrory as governor. With Perdue, I can only speculate that she will be fair for towards the Charlotte region in state politics, but with McCrory I KNOW Charlotte will be given its fair share with state government.

Anonymous said...

Guess what I do blame McCrory. He doesn't know how to play with others. We've got representatives in Raleigh, yet McCrory doesn't even bother to communicate with them. He just uses the headlines to throw out accusations how no one pays attention to Charlotte. Mecklenburg's delegation can fight for us all they can, but when you have a Mayor whose out there throwing rocks its hard to get the rest of the state to climb on board. McCrory is only in it for himself, and you can rest assured as governor he'll be looking out for his own political career -- not NC, and probably not even Charlotte.

bakernewswire said...

First of all, Charlotte isn't Western NC, it's located in the Piedmont area of the state.

Second of all, are you serious?! Bev Perdue is nothing more than the failure that is/was the Mike Easley legacy, and on top of it, she's arrogant.

If you want a governor who pretends that anything West of Greensboro is Eastern TN, by all means, vote for Bev.

I've never understood this resentment of Charlotte by other parts of the state. Not only is Charlotte (by a wide margin) the largest city in the state, we bring in the majority of revenue for this state. This state would be nothing without Charlotte and the metro area surrounding it.

This has nothing to do with partisan thoughts - I am an Obama and Kay Hagan supporter - however if Bev Perdue is elected Governor, I will do my best to relocate out of the state with my job, as she will do NOTHING other than spin this state in a negative direction.

Justin said...

2:29: Perdue won't change anything. She's the current governor's right hand woman.

I am not originally from North Carolina, but do currently reside in Charlotte. I have had the privilege of seeing most of the state and do not understand why Charlotte has the highest population and pays the most taxes, but always receives the short end of the stick when it comes to roads and other benefits found in Greensboro, Raleigh and all points East. Pat McCrory is not perfect, but Ms. Bev Perdue is more of the same. That just is not working for me!! In the end, Chicken Little was right. The Sky Is Falling!!

Anonymous said...

I have lived here in the east for the last 13 years having lived in the Charlotte area for 44 before that. One thing I have learned. Beverly Perdue is a snkae in the grass. People here in Craven County will vote for just to brag about having a governor from here. She is nothing but a two faced politician. A lot of style, no substance. I could go into the tens of miilions she has brought to this area for roads but I don't ahve the space. You folks in Charlotte think about this next time you are stuck in traffic. Thanks toe old Bev there is a nice 4 lane highway leading from Craven County into Bayboro in Pamlico County for no good reason. Who wants to go to a town about the size the Denver was 20 years ago.

I think she already took a couple of shots at him for that.

as far a spending money on NASCAR or b-ball arenas and doggie parks, hes looking at the best interest for Charlotte as a Mayor, not NC as a Gov. F Purdue!

HMMMMMM . . . .this is why people resent Charlotte. Charlotte considers itself the center of the universe. I've heard this tired argument too many times. It's just arrogance because Charlotte has big shiny buildings.

Show me where Charlotte brings in the "majority of revenue" more than the rest of the state.

You can look down your nose all you want to the hicks outside of Charlotte, but they have been the backbone of this great state. NOT CHARLOTTE!

Anonymous said...

I have a question for everyone? How many more roads does Charlotte need? You have major interstates, and they have added more lanes to the existing interstates in recent years. Maybe the problem is poor urban planning, not enough roads.

Anonymous said...

I'm a lifelong Democrat and voted for Obama. I also voted for Pat McCrory for governor. A vote for Bev Purdue is a vote to keep kicking Charlotte in the teeth. SHe is little more than a stooger for Basnight and Rand. The road money spent in eastern NC is criminal and still businesses don't go there. The favoritism shown Raleigh over Charlotte is just appalling. Honestly, maybe we should just be our own state. NC would miss the 20% in tax reveniyes we kick in every year.

Anonymous said...

We have major interstates that turn into parking lots at rush hour. We have a beltway project (that would allow 100,000 cars-a-day) on hold, while a 9,000 car-a-day beltway gets completed elsewhere.

Urban planning is definitely part of the problem, but it is hard to plan without proper funding.

Dem4Pat said...

COME ON CHARLOTTE.....EVERYONE HERE NEEDS TO VOTE MCCRORY! I am a major Democratic supporter, but Charlotte NEEDS Pat!! Please please get on board...the rest of the state hates us, and we need an advocate in Raleigh!

Anonymous said...

We in Charlotte are not even able to tax our own gasoline purchases to build our own roads. I'm tired of the criminal hayseeds and tobaccos spits that run the NC legislature.

Anonymous said...

I'd happily pay more in taxes to build Charlotte but I'm completely over paying for useless projects in eastern NC.

bakernewswire said...

We have 698,000 people in the city limits alone, and we're the 19th largest city in the US, yet we're plagued with poor interstates/roads. Yes, I do believe that I-485 needs to be completed as quickly as possible, along with the light rail.

And, to whomever criticized me for "looking down my nose," I was born in the mountains of Western NC - but I believe that when you neglect your largest city, it dissuades businesses from coming to the area. Quite frankly, I'm sure that a potential large business is going to look at Charlotte well before they look at a random patch of land in Eastern NC.

I'll find the revenue document that I came across and post it here as soon as possible.

Anonymous said...

I don't see any way for Bev Perdue to win and neither does she. Money from Washington is bank rolling her. That's enough for me to vote against her.

In an effort to get votes in Charlotte she so desperately needs she says she will have an office in Charlotte. Yeah, right, another place we can be ignored, our own hometown!

She says she would finish I-485. She's been there all this time and didn't give a blank about finishing I-485, now it's important to her. Why?

She would do exactly what she has done in the past for us.

Here's good news! As Charlotte Mecklenburg continues to grow and the east gets smaller in population, its happening everyday, they will become less significant in N.C. politics and Charlotte will become more dominant. That will eventually end the domination of this state from the east.

I'm not saying we should not take care of problems and people in the east but we will not neglect ourselves they way they do us.

In regard to fundraising, Bev has raised her money from people all over NC. McCrory received his money from Charlotte and OUTSIDE of NC.

And before you start boo-hooing about Bev outspending McCrory, are you considering the huge sums of money coming from the RGA? That's McCrory's meal ticket. There's been countless stories on the subject, just look it up!

I lived in Raleigh for over a year and they have more road projects than any other city I've ever lived in (and that's quite a few). Meanwhile, the largest city in the state doesn't have working lights on I-277! Amazing.

I agree more with Perdue on the issues (lower taxes on the MIDDLE class, not the upper 5%), but I don't see her being a good governor for Charlotte - if we want I-485 to be completed, we need to vote for McCrory. Hold your noses and do it for your city, Charlotte.

How stupid are you "Boy Mayor" supporters? Do you think that, if the worst case happens, the "Boy Mayor" fools a majority of NC voters and "steals" the election he is going to deliver to "The Great State of Mecklenburg" everything "the powers that be" want?? He is going to spend his entire four (4) years [ 4 years only because he will not be re-elected] delivering to the rest of NC in hopes of showing how he is not just the Governor of Charlotte. This area will not benefit one bit! Nothing! That is how Real Politics works! You can call the rest of our State all the names you want, but if you EVER want our city to become a equal part of our Great State, Perdue as Governor is the ONLY choice!

I find the comments supporting McCrory very interesting as everyone seems to think he'll look out for Charlotte. My question to these posters is what part of Charlotte are you referring to.

Seems to me that during McCrory's time in office he's only looked out for the Uptown or Myers Park crowd. I'm concerned about the people who live along Albemarle Road, Eastland Mall, Highland Creek, etc. There's a lot more to Charlotte than Uptown.

In fact, more than 55,000 of Charlotte's children live in poverty. Yet I've never heard McCrory address this as a pressing issue in Charlotte.

A vote for Bev Perdue is certainly more than an anti-Charlotte vote, it's an anti-anything but Eastern North Carolina vote, because that's what she is. Also, this poll is not accurate - McCrory actually leads Perdue. It has long been known that PPP is the most liberal poll out there and tries to sway voters to do the popular thing, but thanks Charlotte Disturber. Finally, VOTE ROBERT PITTENGER AS WELL IF YOU WANT ANYTHING DONE HERE IN CHARLOTTE!!! It's the Lt. Governor who directs all of the debate and forces votes as President of the NC Senate. Pittenger's is arguably a more important race!!!

WOW! I hope you realize that you just contradicted yourself. Who is the sitting Lt. Governor who "directs all the debate and forces votes" in the Senate? Why its Bev Perdue, the best qualified person to be our next governor!

I'm gay and my social issues line up with Bev's-or at least, as much as we know about them.

I have no doubt she'd throw me under the bus (or that bridge to nowhere in New Bern) if it was politically experdient.

I'm counting on the Democrats holding the legislature to curb Pat's worst impulses. With him there, not just Charlotte but urban North Carolina will maybe get a fair shake. If Bevver's there, it's hopeless.

If it could be just Mecklenburg, I'd prefer we were our own state.

Those who voted for Obama, Hagan and Perdue may just get what they wanted and it will not be pretty. We will probably have a REAL depression, not to mention a terrorist attack. Also, maybe the banks here will downsize and some of our gay population can move on.

All of my family is from Goldsboro/Smithfield. I grew up in Burlington and attended NCSU in the early 80's. The "original" beltline has been there as long as I can remember. I always figured it was so the legislators could get around Raleigh easier when they came to work.I had good friends at UNCC and those at State who were from Charlotte, and I visited here numerous times then. Even then, I noticed the difference in the roads here.

Then I moved to Charlotte in 93' and have watched Charlotte grow even more. Now, Raleigh has a "second" beltline, new pavement everywhere I travel while visiting down east, and road work all over the place. Yeah, we added a couple of useless "commuter lanes" recently, which help about 6 people a day (but that IS 24 whole hours a day).

I still don't understand why we can't just get one loop completed around Charlotte to help out with congestion in the amount of time it takes me to grow into an adult while Raleigh just keeps growing them. We can't even get light bulbs to light them! Maybe it has taken so long because when I-485 was slated for construction, Easly, Hunt and all of the others came down here to buy some farm land along the outer edges of the county and once it appreciated enough to sell to the state, those interested parties looked elsewhere.

I don't trust Bev. If she's so worried about these problems that she has been a part of in this state, why is it so important fix them now? How about when these problems started under this Democrat regime? Why didn't she step up and say something then? Why does she care now? Pat? Yeah, he has ignored the voters on some things here, but he was worried more about the future of the city than of the state, and I don't expect any other mayor in this state to be any different. There are a whole different set of issues facing the state that don't impact Charlotte the way a mayor's decision would, and since we only have two real candidates to vote for, we should vote for the lesser of two evils. Welcome to Raleigh Governor McCrory. You, reluctantly, have my vote.

pat mccrory has consistanly lied about anything he has been confronted with. "will veto any bill that robs the highway trust fund" In 2002 he led a republican coalition that demanded easley rob 90 million from the highway trust fund to balance the budget. During the primaries he was all about school vouchers, now in the general election those vouchers are for the poor and menatlly handicapped. he would veto any bill that limited expansion of land fills and creating new landfills in NC because it would increase income and create jobs. Now he says he never said that.
he is as crooked as that evil u know what eating grin of his

the raleigh outter beltline is half completed and has been a project for years, i can't help charlottes planners have done such a poor job planning highways there, perhaps you should look for new leadership there instead of electing people who build big shiny things and whose next project may be a pyramid to himself.
where does the light rail go, to maybe the richest neighborhood in charlotte. is that so all the rich boys can go home for lunch for a buck, or perhaps make their tee-times without a traffic jam

Anonymous said...

uh, 8:21...

The NCDOT plans the highways. Not locals.

The light rail was built on the cheap (like everything in NC except Raleigh's highways) goes through a number of 'hoods none of which are anywhere near a tee-time.

You are woefully ignorant.

Anonymous said...

Hey 8:21, go hang out on South Blvd at Arrowood Rd train stop and wait for the guy in the 95' Lexus with the $8,000 rims to give you a ride.....just run if he asks you if you know what time it is............maybe if you knew anything about Charlotte, you could post a comment from your car while you wait in trafic.

Anonymous said...

city county planners lay out the roads they would like to see built, the dot reviews and prioritizes them u idiot and that light rail goes deep into south charlotte near many a tee time. i believe if u would get off the couch and start checking things out in your city u might find out several things u dont like
the main thing i know about charlotte is its riddled with crime and loaded with a bunch of yankees and whiners, i cant wait to get outta here
by the way i ride the bus

I have never in my life lived in Charlotte thus my opinion on the matter of Charlotte vs. North Carolina is bias. I admit to being ignorant of the facts. All the same I will share with you, my thoughts.

I am confident in saying that I read your comments and from the sounds of it the ONLY argument that Charlotte is screaming about is road conditions.

Now I have only visited Charlotte on a few occassions and when I am there I avoid driving at all cost. My temper will not allow me to sit in that type of traffic. I get a headache just imagining driving south of Concord Mills.

As a visitor, I agree the roads in Charlotte is terrible. I am dumbfounded at how fast interstate 540 has been put together. Within 10 they have built an entire road connecting the outskirts of Raleigh. The only sections left is low density areas of the county.

I have lived in the Triad, the Triangle, and now in the Sandhills and I will say outside of Charlotte all of the roads I have seen are in Good condition.

Pertaining to the lights for 277, there is active contract out by the DOT for that problem it is supposed to be completed by next summer. You can get details at the DOT website, TIP Number I-5014, Contract Number C202052. See the DOT did give you guys some money :)

Why in the world do you need street lights on highways? There are not any where I am from, that is a response that a lot of people outside of Charlotte will have to the suggestion of complaining about Street light on Highways. What to you'll seem a necessity would be deem a wasteful luxury by a lot of people who is not able to relate the merit of it because it is out of sight for them.

All jokes aside, the planners in Charlotte and the DOT has to figure out a strategy to prevent Charlotte from spawning into Atlanta!

Listening to the argument you guys are making Charlotte is a wonderful city that is being held back because of the roads.

Are the roads that bad, that the health of the education system, or the crime rate is swept under the rug.

In my opinion you guys are wrong if you think that Charlotte's growth will lead to more clout in Raleigh.

I feel that the state government will be reflective of the federal system where you will have representatives of small areas of populations in high up in the ranks of power.

For a lot of people in North Carolina they can not relate to the problems of Charlotte. Even in Raleigh's rush hour traffic there is no "parking lot" commute.

Will it ever change? Probably not, I think Charlotte's metro interest will always be low on the totem pole.

I'm registered as a Democrat six years ago when I renewed my drivers license. If I knew then what I knew now, I would have registered as independent or unaffliated. I am sick of the unindated flyers and phone calls. I've made my mind up after months and months of watching all the debates and pundits. I voted early. Mixed ticket. I based my decisions on individuals and their issues... not a straight ticket by far. If people would listen to more than ONE pundit (i.e. cable stations and local stations), you eventually get two stories. Most channels and newspapers are extremely bias. I listened with an open heart and an informed intelligent brain. When negative ads come on (which seem to be in between each and every television show, including the news channels, I change or mute my remote. Vote intelligently. The funniest thing I have seen was from my registered 24 year old son who learned at a young age that if you don't utilize your right to vote, then you lose your freedom to b*$$( about the next administration. Just thought this was interesting and my be far telling as to why some people are voting.

In this, they say McCain's 'issues' are Obama's views and vice versa. Listen to the sponses. Voting means being informed on the candidates AND their issues.

This topic makes no sense. As we all know Mecklenburg County voted for Bev Perdue. Bev Perdue is for North Carolina(The entire State). She is not Anti-Charlotte.
