Too extreme? For North Carolina?

Republican presidential candidate John McCain has condemned a North Carolina Republican Party ad campaign attacking Democratic candidate Barack Obama and his former pastor as “offensive” and asked that it be withheld. The ad "degrades our civics and distracts us from the very real differences we have with the Democrats," McCain said.

The ad called Obama “just too extreme for North Carolina” and also criticizes Democratic gubernatorial candidates Bev Perdue and Richard Moore for having endorsed Obama.

Wow. Think of that - the party of Jesse Helms, calling someone too extreme for this state. Not so long ago almost nothing was too extreme for North Carolina politics, including the Helms’ campaign portraying Democrat Jim Hunt as someone backed by gays and lesbians, not to mention Teddy Kennedy and Jesse Jackson.

What Obama's former pastor said did, indeed, offend a lot of folks, but Obama has repudiated Jeremiah Wright's remarks and most candidates have stayed away from the N.C. Republican Party's style of guilt-by-association ad. But evidently the GOP thinks it's right at home in North Carolina, where there's a rich tradition of this sort of thing in political campaigns -- including the days when the Democrats ran everything.

Here’s a link to Observer reporter David Ingram's story.

McCain deserves some credit for trying to do the right thing here, even if it is an attempt to downplay his own "pastor problem". The Press have largely given McCain a free pass on his Hagee endorsement, while helping to tar and feather Jeremiah Wright for statements that could just have easily been made by MLK: "the greatest purveyor of violence in the world today -- my own government." ("Beyond Vietnam -- A Time to Break Silence"). Wright will be interviewed on Bill Moyers' Journal this Friday, but don't expct any of that footage to appear in any campaigh ads.

It would be great if the comments of Jeremiah Wright were put in context. Everything that I have seen on TV was either a quote from someone else or an attempt to make a larger and legitimate point. (See this weeks issue of The Christian Century.) Can't anybody spend five minutes or so to get at the truth of the matter?

Wikipedia has the context for Wright's remarks.

It would be funny if the ad actually served to turn more Dems in the primary off of Obama and onto Hillary. You do have to wonder about listening to that stuff for 20 years, but you also have to wonder why the hateful, spiteful temperament of the Republican party is allowed to continue to thrive. I guess it's in their hearts and in their minds. They think Republican means Christian. It just ain't so.

At Some Point We Have To Face The Isuues With jobs being permanently shipped offshore, homes being foreclosed upon at a record rate and gas hitting four dollars a gallon, let's address issues. The past associations of a candidate aren't as important as a weakening US dollar or skyrocketing food costs.

I'm a registered Republican and frankly I'm sick of this crap from both sides of the isle.

When will people grow up and start acting like adults?

I guess that's too much to hope for.

It absolutely bewilders me that anybody would not think it an important issue if a public official running for election, especially for the highest office in the land was a member of a separatist church, with such radical theology. Im sorry, but it does matter. I think it would serve to represent exactly who you really are, instead of who Obama would like every voter to believe he is. Associations like this are very relevant, ask David Duke.

Anonymous said...

What's wrong with using the ad--it's simply a statement from Obama's pastor--the one he listened to for years and didn't have the guts to leave the church. Doesn't say much for what kind of leader he would be!

Anonymous said...

Great, now not only do we have a racist running for for preisdent now we can enjoy censorship also. America is really looking up....

Anonymous said...

Ad speaks to the truth. I guess some people do not like to be reminded of what they may be supporting.

Anonymous said...

Homes being foreclosed--it's called personal responsibility. Do not take a loan if you can't pay it.
Jobs being offshored. Do a little research. Jobs are being eliminated due to efficiencies and processes, not being offshored in the manuf. sector.
$4 Gas. Take a look at why they are going up so fast...one word: taxes!

Electing more big gov't types (all three of the candidates included)is not the solution. Get Gov't out of the way and let people take control of their own lives. EVERYONE will be much better off for it.

Does America Need to Elect ANY Democrat?

The average American is appalled at the ever escalating price of gasoline/transportation costs and the impact that these costs are having on the family budget. Further, as we're well aware, transportation costs ripple through the entire American economy on every essential commodity that we're required to purchase such as food. The latter being accentuated by an erroneous emphasis on an inefficient petroleum substitute, ethanol, which actually inhibits our attempts to achieve higher mileage standards. In an America with POTENTIALLY vast energy resources, why have we allowed ourselves to become willing victims of cartel energy piracy from highly unstable, unfriendly fanatical regimes, from whom we now import a substantial segment of our petroleum needs? Imports which continuously drain wealth from America in the form of an unfavorable balance of trade; and, conversely flow petro-dollars into the coffers of Islamofacists and others who would destroy America given the opportunity. Where it not for America's dependence on these Middle-East petroleum imports, we could conveniently extricate ourselves from this cauldron of fanaticism; and, allow the ragheads to wallow in their self imposed misery and virulent hatred for Western culture.

The fundamental question is WHO do we blame for this self-imposed dilemma?

America originated nuclear power; and yet, we produce only 20% of our domestic electrical energy from the nuclear option while countries such as France produce 78%, and have programmed significantly more, dramatically reducing their dependence on fossil fuels. The safety issue on nuclear power is a non-sequitur given the hundreds of thousands of operating hours on U.S. Naval nuclear propulsion systems without incident. But yet, LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS in our society THAT COMPRISE A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE BASE OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY have for 30yrs. managed to bring America's nuclear industry to a standstill.

Our Nation possesses an abundance of untapped petroleum reserves off our coastlines; in the Alaskan wilderness; and, in the form of hi-quality shale oil in the Rocky Mountain region where we have the equivalent of ten(10) Saudi Arabia's in recoverable reserves. And yet, we have permitted LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS to inhibit our access to such deposits. The incredible irony is that the CHICOM are exploring for oil 45miles South of Key West, while we have prohibited ourselves from exploiting the same resources. Had Bill Clinton not vetoed the Republican controlled Senate approval of drilling in ANWAR, exploration which has been previously proven to be beneficial to the Alaskan Caribou herds, we would have had an additional one million barrels of domestic oil production on-line TODAY; and, a concurrent reduction in the at-pump price of gasoline of $1/gallon. Further, there is a significant synergy to be exploited between Nuclear Power and Shale Oil Extraction. Concurrently, Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, ensconced in their own vision of scuttling fossil fuels, have both pledged to confiscate the profits of America's Energy Companies. A move that would cripple our capacity to explore/develop additional petroleum reserves; greatly exacerbate our dependence on foreign sources; and, dramatically further increase the price of fuel at the pump.

America has the largest reserves of coal in the world; and, a full 50% of our domestic electrical energy generation is dependent on this resource; and yet, LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS continuously attempt to restrict the use of these coal reserves; and, to impede attempts to develop technologies/facilities for the gasification of coal. Bill Clinton struck a major blow to America's accessible coal reserves when he unilaterally, over the objection of State officials, placed the Red Hills of Utah with an estimated Four(4) Trillion $s worth of high quality coal assets off-limits. Fearful of mass protests, Clinton wouldn't even go to Utah to announce his heinous restriction; but, rather chose to make his proclamation from the relative security of Arizona. Clinton's actions represented a major financial windfall for his Riady Bros. bankrollers who were in competition with Utah to sell their Indonesian coal holdings to the CHICOM.

Even our Hydro-Electric potential has been brought to a standstill by LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS over such nonsense as the Snail-Darter. Water resources which could as well now be playing a major role in mitigating the effects of the drought that has recently griped the SouthEast.

Much of the hype over fossil fuels has again been exploited by LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS over the mythical impact of MAN MADE CO2 emissions on Global Warming. Such proclamations totally disregard the complete lack of correlation between recorded atmospheric CO2 levels and recorded Global temperatures. On Earth as on Mars, where no controversy of Man Made Global Warming factors exist, surface temperature variations precisely track the recorded fluctuations in Solar irradiance. Ask our self-inflicted dyslexic friend, Al Gore, to explain these two recorded contradictions to his Man Made Global Warming hype. The silence is deafening Albert!

Imposition of overly burdensome regulatory criteria and an application morass principally sponsored by LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS, have made the expense and reduced profitability of investing in additional refinery installations prohibitive. The inevitable result being that corporations for many years have shunned such capital projects creating a restrictive "choke point" in the availability of gasoline products. This "choke point" where refineries are continuously required to operate at peak capacities makes the availability/distribution of refined products within our Nation readily vulnerable to supply disruptions. Further, the dictated multiple blends of gasoline, frequently multiple blends within the same metropolis, have seriously complicated and inflated the time factor in the refinery task.

To be certain, we CAN and we MUST achieve total energy independence; but, our Nation can only extricate ourselves from this self imposed dilemma by a broad-based, comprehensive NATIONAL ENERGY STRATEGY that BLENDS all of the elements of: conservation; major increases in transportation efficiencies, such as increased mileage standards; exploitation of our indigenous petroleum resources; a significant expansion of our refinery facilities; major investments in nuclear energy; supplementation of our electrical grid with solar, wind, and hydro technologies; and, a major investment in Research and Development to bring a Hydrogen based economy to fruition. Unfortunately, to dig ourselves out of this self-created coffin-corner will require TIME. Time which simply means that, in the interim, we must protect our access to unstable Middle East suppliers until we bring our own assets on line. The latter exigency which could readily be scuttled by the Cut-And-Run crowd on Iraq. The regional chaos which would be precipitated by Iran subsequent to a precipitous American withdrawal from Iraq would make the current cost-escalation in energy supplies from the Middle East seem like the Golden Age of Yesteryear by comparison; and, most certainly would induce a much wider conflict/conflagration. The myopia of the Left on these circumstances is astounding. As history has repeatedly taught with grim consequences, PEACE and STABILITY are won only THRU STRENGTH; and, NOT THRU the nebulous psychosis of HOPE.

The ability of a LEFT-WING minority, that has repeatedly demonstrated the ability to whiplash the Democrat Party, to dictate such onerous/debilitating restrictions in the energy sector of the American economy has been made possible ONLY by the passive acceptance of these militant's demands by the more rational majority of the American electorate. The RATIONAL MAJORITY: that believes in the 2nd Amendment to our Constitution; that is proud of our Country; that daily expresses such pride by the furling of an American flag on their property, or the wearing of an American Flag lapel pin on their chest; that proudly places their hand over their heart at the singing of our National Anthem while even shedding a tear or two; that is unashamed to actively recognize the Judeo/Christian heritage of America; that believe that Judges should NOT legislate from the bench; and, that proudly proclaims the unparallel contribution of America to the protection and sustenance of democratic values throughout the pages of world history, as opposed to LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS that believe America to be the greatest EVIL in the world. As the Pope so eloquently proclaimed on his recent visit to our homeland, "God Bless America".

The task then for the RATIONAL MAJORITY in our Nation is SIMPLY to recognize the SOURCE that sustains and provides the base of support for the LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS in our society; and, to undertake a decisive role at the ballot box to isolate and relegate these FRINGE ELEMENTS THAT COMPRISE A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF THE BASE OF THE DEMOCRAT PARTY to a decibel level that is barely audible. ANY TIME you vote for a Democrat, ANY DEMOCRAT, you're unmistakably multiplying the capacity of these LEFT-WING FRINGE ELEMENTS to continue to promote their radical agenda, and to bring our Nation to its knees. A circumstance that no external power ever could have accomplished.

The ability to restore our Nation's status; and, to sustain this Sacred Land that the RATIONAL MAJORITY so proudly calls AMERICA, resides in your hands at the ballot box.

It's so sad you live in a world of fear. This country was not meant for the white man only when the Native Americans were here first. Everything you have was stolen by your ancestors (greed). How can you called someone racist or satanic after all of the things you all have done to all ethnic groups around the world? As a Christian, the bible says, that the Earth belongs to God, not man. Before you began judging people, look within yourself and find some inner peace. After all of your anger and stupid comments that Slavery was good for blacks, etc. we are all here to stay. You will never have this country for one race only, Never! You are the least number of people in the world.

On the most segregated day of the week (Sunday), we have problems with what that Pastor said. HA! We as a country need to be more concerned with bringing out troops home, lowers the ever rising gas prices, the housing slump, and continual offshoring of jobs overseas!!!! I cant believe that any American would be willing to vote for a candidate who is obviously lying about his ties to Islam, (much less that he actually has ties to Islam). The association with reverand Wright should scare every voter, regardless of color. Oprah Winfrey was so upset by Mr Wrights sermons, she disassociated herself with that church, exactly what Obama should have done. Listen very carefully to his repudiations of Rev Wright, as they are carefully worded. Hello everyone!! He was the campaigns spiritual advisor until this story broke. Everyone who thinks they are voting for change, may be right, but you may not like the change you get. I think everyone should look up Marxism, and socialism and compare the ideals with the Democratic agenda of today, pretty scary similarities.

From the Chicago Tribune:

Factor Military Duty into Criticsm

In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country," gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.

In 1963, this man, having completed his two years of service in the Marines, volunteered again to become a Navy corpsman. (They provide medical assistance to the Marines as well as to Navy personnel.)

The man did so well in corpsman school that he was the valedictorian and became a cardiopulmonary technician. Not surprisingly, he was assigned to the Navy's premier medical facility, Bethesda Naval Hospital, as a member of the commander in chief's medical team, and helped care for President Lyndon B. Johnson after his 1966 surgery. For his service on the team, which he left in 1967, the White House awarded him three letters of commendation.

What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated.

While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate student and one for being a prospective father. Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.

Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?

After leaving the service of his country, the young African-American finished his final year of college, entered the seminary, was ordained as a minister, and eventually became pastor of a large church in one of America's biggest cities.

This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ, who has been in the news for comments he made over the last three decades.

Since these comments became public we have heard criticisms, condemnations, denouncements and rejections of his comments and him.

We've seen on television, in a seemingly endless loop, sound bites of a select few of Rev. Wright's many sermons.

Some of the Wright's comments are inexcusable and inappropriate and should be condemned, but in calling him "unpatriotic," let us not forget that this is a man who gave up six of the most productive years of his life to serve his country.

How many of Wright's detractors, Rush Limbaugh and Bill O'Reilly to name but a few, volunteered for service, and did so under the often tumultuous circumstances of a newly integrated armed forces and a society in the midst of a civil rights struggle? Not many.

While words do count, so do actions.

Let us not forget that, for whatever Rev. Wright may have said over the last 30 years, he has demonstrated his patriotism.

Lawrence Korb and Ian Moss are, respectively, Navy and Marine Corps veterans. They work at The Center For American Progress. Korb served as assistant secretary of Defense in the Reagan administration.

It is pretty upsetting that Linda Daves would try to make a national name for herself at the expense of the good folks of this state and the progressive image of North Carolina. She is making Charlotte look terrible--and guess what, this is all the national news folks are going to talk about when they talk about N.C.

If you have never attended Trinity UCC and/or have not personally met Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright, then you have no idea what you are talking about. Trinity UCC is a part of a denomination that is 99% white. It's funny that on any given Sunday, weekly, there are rows of White vistors. Don't believe me, go to Streaminfaith.com on Sunday at 7:30 AM or 11:00 AM and checkout the service. In addition, there are White members of Trinity UCC. Moreover, Rev. Wright has been defended and lauded by ministers of all different colors, faith traditions, and backgrounds. However, you will not see any of this on CNN, MSNBC, Fox News or other media outlets. The respect and admiration that other clergy, professionals, and everyday folk have for this man will not be reported. While I am not a member of Trinity UCC, I am a member of the UCC church and I have first hand knowledge that Rev. Wright does not preach hate, particularly hatred of a specific race of people. But, he does preach hatred of racism, oppression of any kind, and imperialism. He's not anti-American; he is a decorated US Marine and Naval Officer. He was enrolled at Virginia Union University and did what Bush, Clinton and Cheney did not do; he postponed his education and volunteered for active duty. He speaks 5 languages and holds 4 degrees. He was sent two letters of commendation from President L.B Johnson, for the assistance he rendered during Johnson's surgery. I think, he has earned the right to criticize the failings of America; he’s walked the walk…

It's interesting to me that people have been quoting the Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. "I Have a Dream" speech and are saying Rev. Wright should preach love like Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. What would Rev. Dr. MLK Jr. say or do? However, few people recite or recant Rev. Dr. MLK Jr.’s sermon at Riverside Church, in New York--the year before his death--where he said America is one of the greatest purveyors of violence. He also said that God's wrath would be upon America for her sins. But today, now that he's dead, we all love Dr. MLK and fail to remember why he was murdered. He was murdered because he spoke-out against the Vietnam War, poverty, America’s imperialism. So, don’t get this thing twisted. The fact is that anyone who speaks out against America is under attack. It was true back in the day and it remains true today. Being American is not synonymous with being white or black, and it is not synonymous with the American flag. We all have a right to love and criticize our country.

Barack Obama is an African American. Almost all other African Americans are voting for him for that very reason. Although these proud African Americans will say different, any astute observer can plainly see, that which is in their hearts is very different from the words they speak. Once you subtract their rationalizing away of the inexplicable, you stare into the stark face of open and hostile racism. To Obama supporters it's more important that an African American run as the candidate of the Democratic Party - than it is to have a more experienced and better qualified candidate run. The fact that a more experienced candidate has the only chance to win, carries no sway with the African American group. The Obama supporters have shown a selfish attitude that speaks of uncaring for what's overall best for all Democrats, as well as all 'just plain Americans' in general. Obama ran on the vacuously ignominious "Change" mantra for close to a year. Only lately have newly plagiarized positions and half thought-out issues without funding, been adopted. From the outset, only one thing ever mattered to his large group of followers. Even without benefit of experience and without even his own programs to run on, the only thing that ever mattered is that Barack Obama is an African American.

African Americans are fresh from forcing a former Vice-Presidential candidate from the arena of public discourse, while at the same time attempting to destroy the reputation of, a great lady in Geraldine Ferraro. In the end, Geraldine Ferraro bravely stood tall and took one in the heart for her country. She decided to sacrifice herself for the good of Hillary Clinton's campaign and for benefit of their unified beliefs. That's the kind of sacrifice that for 240 years exemplifies truly great and loyal Americans. African Americans successfully silenced Geraldine Ferraro's rights to speak freely and without fear of retribution. That's the kind of thing that cult-like groups do. They attack with great vigor the slightest hint of disapproval before it can spread, and in the process of curtailing dissension they are successfully silencing speech and imprisoning minds to their will. That's the point where the poisonous brew of brainwashing and co opting, manifest themselves into a subservient role. By then, minds will have been effectively cleansed of all those negative thoughts, as randomly determined by the self appointed masters of the thought police.

The resistance to being 'just plain Americans', has been a long and hard fight that African Americans have waged against assimilation. In America you get to be called whatever you want to be called, and so it is with African Americans. We always let people decide and define themselves - first it was Negro, then colored, then black, then African Americans - but never have they come to grips with being 'just plain Americans'. There's always that cultish predication of ethnicity, before American, that screams against assimilation.

It is true that the forefathers of most African Americans were forced to come here. But isn't it also true, that all of our forefathers were forced to come here for one reason or another? Be it slavery, starvation, incarceration, indentured servitude, to escape debtors prison, or political / religious freedom - lives of misery and destitution is a common rope that runs throughout the history of all immigrants to America. To cherry pick and fight over the differences between the strands of that 'rope of misery', and then try to turn the differences into a beneficial asset for only one group's lives, is the very antipathy of assimilation and equality. Such behavior is un-American on so many different levels.

For 140 years, a mantra of African American complaints and teachings has evolved. Complaints about their minority status, their historically oppressive strand in the American 'rope of misery', their anger, their hatreds, as well as their total dissatisfactions with America at large are too often heard. Complaints, and then teachings about 'African American' pride, 'African American' history month, 'African American' dress, and Africa-the-homeland, have been passed on to generation after generation like an inherited family heirloom. It's become so ingrained and omnipresent that it's become a religion in their lives. A religion that the young don't even question anymore, but accept as a birthright. African Americans have made standing-apart into a cottage industry that bleeds excessive dollars and sympathy from the pool of true equality for all Americans. The benefits of standing-apart have been so successful that African Americans have become, what might fairly be called, the privileged class in America. Yet they still insist on playing the lucrative oppressed minority, as if no one else has ever suffered to be here. Just like the Barack Obama love affair of the pandering main stream media, African Americans are also too often able to get a free ride, a free ticket, and a free pass just by implication of the fear mongering word, 'racist'. Life is tough on us all, we just have to deal with it. There can be no more free lunches here, because somebody always has to end up paying the bill in the end. So, meanwhile other 'just plain Americans', have to take up the slack and continue to make more than a fair share of sacrifices just to cover the free ride being given to ethnic cultists.

This constant playing on wrongs done to a single strand of that 'rope of misery' woven over 7 generations ago, has left a reluctance for national sacrifice and assimilation by far too many African Americans. It has been going on for too long and has gotten totally out of hand. Many whites have suffered their entire lives in pain and misery, just to make personal sacrifices for our national appeasement to African Americans. That lifetime of pain and misery was for wrongs that they themselves had nothing to do with. That's what the American spirit is all about, yet these same whites are now the ones who are openly discriminated against if they dare to use their freedom to speak out candidly and say that "enough is enough already". If you want evidence, go to the nationally known web site Daily Kos, and try to speak out against anything African American. Go ahead, try it. Double dog dare you. The big question is, will 'just plain Americans' like you have the nerve to speak out, knowing full well that you will be criticized, demonized and villainized for seeking equal treatment of free speech. I caution you in advance, you will run into the most vicious personal attacks imaginable. "Racist" will be the least offensive name you'll be called. The racial-card players of Barack Obama's attackers who assault you, will also be enjoined against you and led by those 'John Kerry & Ted Kennedy' type supporters known as, "Uncle Jim's". Uncle Jim's are white ultra liberals, who's ethics and morals are so low as to preclude pride and accomplishments of their own ancestral blood lines, in difference to that of African Americans. This all out intimidation of free speech has historically proven itself so effective, that Karl Rove and the Bush Administration copied it for use against those who opposed the war in Iraq, by labeling them 'unpatriotic'.

African Americans have come to like the special attention given to them by the predicated modifier of being called African, before that of American. On the other hand, many Americans have an ancestry so long established in America, that they don't even remember - nor do they even care - from whence their ancestors came. It would be the same as them calling them self a Pennsylvania American, or Carolina American. African Americans, not plain Americans, but African Americans - and now they hope to become the de facto leaders of all plain Americans, even if vicariously through Barack Obama. All the other Americans that did forego their own heritage of sacrifices and abuses, are now expected to put aside the best interest of themselves and their children's futures, just so African Americans can have "their turn now".

The oppressed minority roles in America have been greatly over-played and pushed to their fullest extent. Mostly the excess is from members of two main groups, Jewish Americans and African Americans. United, not for American citizenry, but for ethnic purpose only. They use past oppressions to their ancestors done worldwide as a gangland style extortion threat to American politicians. Using their influential control of our main stream medias like terrorists with a gun to the head of America, they deftly pick it's wallet filled with our tax dollars, in the name of political clout. The Jewish Americans have done it for the past 60+ years (3+ generations) and the African Americans for the past 140+ years (7+ generations). They conveniently forget that we are all from another country, another race, another religion, or another language. Even native American Indians had to fully assimilate and give their total allegiance to only America, but not Jewish Americans and African Americans. Forgotten in their pitiful pretext of pathos, is that no group has ever had an easy time when they came to America. Our forefathers all wove their own strands through the American 'rope of misery'. They were all dirt poor and abused by both poverty and mankind. It took all of them generations of unimaginable hardships, as well as personal and parental sacrifices, to build a better life for their children. However, almost all nationalities and races did it and assimilated. They did it because they had to do it, and they did it because they also wanted to do it so their families could have better lives. America is an idea for which our nation's ancestors risked their lives to be a part. America is a mindset that all peoples are equal, but also where all those of able body have to pull their own weight. Any group that still wishes to laboriously lug around the excess baggage of past wrongs done to their ancestors, must drag that burden all by themselves and not slow the nation's forward march to prosperity for all. America is a place where neither ethnicities nor nationalities are of any importance, but all are welcome to celebrate their origins if they choose. Just as long as it does not become more important than being an American. America is a place where, whenever 80% to 90% of any race selfishly votes for one of their own, it's insulting to the tenet of country before ethnicity. In fact, it is reminiscent of elections and peoples with third world mentalities. It should be just as equally embarrassing to all those who have not as yet fully assimilated their loyalties, as it is offensive to all those 'just plain Americans' who have.

On any given Sunday you're liable to hear the same thing in a Black church that Rev Wright said on those snipetts that all over cable news networks. The pulpit is no place for lying and from what I heard Rev. Wright didn't say anything that hasn't been said before about America. The so call die hard patriots of this country gets mad as hell when America is call out on the things it do. This country isn't perfect by know means and what I heard Rev. Wright say was absoulutely on point. Americans set back and let its self be lied to by the present Presidentand he turn this country into a train wreck. Maybe if we start admitting to our mistakes we can start solving them. They say the truth hurts maybe thats why people are so mad at the Rev. Wright.

Its the ignorant people of this country thats gone to be this country downfall. America is a country that would cut off its nose to spite its face. You know Sen Obama should just say goodbye to all this B.S. and leave this country to be ran by the so call die hard patriots who love this country so much that they stuck a unqualified moron like George Bush and a devil like Dick Cheney in office.

Obama is too extreme for NC and for all of America. We desire a leader who loves this country, not one that is ashamed of it. I fail to understand WHY he is even running. He and his wife are not proud. He won't wear the flag pin; they attend a racist anti-american church. Their friends are radicals and terrorists. This makes not sense! Vote for the true patriots either Clinton or McCain.
NOBAMA for NC NOBAME Ever!

Obama has gotten a HUGE pass by the Media on everything. Now, finally, the tide has turned. We are seeing him as the real person he is and what he says behind closed doors is not appreciated by average, hard-working Americans. He doesn't care about us; he isn't one of us. He is arrogant, elete, and has an identity crisis. Americans must chose wisely, do you want someone who associates with terrorists and would do away with our nuclear arms jeopardizing our national security or do you want someone we actually know?
Hillary Clinton is the candidate ready on day one. She's been there, done that. She has plans to fix the foreclosure and economic problems NOW! Vote in Hillary; she will make a great president!!

It is amazing that no one is talking about the "Code Talk" that the republican candidates use to signal to the political arm of the KKK, (southern sovereignty commissions) that they believe in "states rights" which is code talk for "you can mistreat the minority population" or "your kids do not have to go to integrated school and you can maintain the "separate but unequal" form of education, government, police protection etc. Other code terms are "strict constructionist" as it relates to the constitution and "law and order" as it relates to the unfair punishment of "crack" as compared to "cocaine". The rush limbaughs and the sean hannitys will only tell you their side of the story(which is unfair and unbalanced) without telling you of their hidden agendas. Are you better off today than you were 4-8 years ago?

It seems that something is lost in the translation here... IF we read the facts, the ad is garbage.

It's made up. IF the people of North Carolina WANT the KKK running ads like this in their local media then so be it. Just remember - what goes around, comes around.

So the response to the GOP's stupid, miss-the-obvious, not-make-a-case-out-of-Democrat-corruption advertisement is Well, Obama isn't as "extreme" as Jesse Helms?

Ironically, this post from January makes the opposite case; that the racial invective between Obama and Clinton had gotten so bad (and it has gotten worse since!), that it makes the "infamous" hands ad of 1990 look quaint.

Wright is mainstream compared to Clinton's cult (The Family - made up of "cells" no less!), or McCain's "Spiritual Guide" or extremist supporter. That said...I'd vote for Wright, but not for Clinton, McCain, or "His Holiness the Dali Obama." For the first time in my life (my first vote was for Carter), I'm either going to sit this one out or vote a 3rd Party. Wonder if Ralph will be on the ballot in NC this year?

Subject: FYI
In 1961, a young African-American man, after hearing President John F. Kennedy's challenge to, "Ask not what your country can do for you, but
what you can do for your country," gave up his student deferment, left college in Virginia and voluntarily joined the Marines.

What is even more remarkable is that this man entered the Marines and
Navy not many years after the two branches began to become integrated. While this young man was serving six years on active duty, Vice
President Dick Cheney, who was born the same year as the Marine/ sailor, received five deferments, four for being an undergraduate and graduate
student and one for being a prospective father
Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, both five years younger than the African-American youth, used their student deferments to stay in
college until 1968. Both then avoided going on active duty through family connections.
Who is the real patriot? The young man who interrupted his studies to serve his country for six years or our three political leaders who beat
the system? Are the patriots the people who actually sacrifice something or those who merely talk about their love of the country?
After leaving the service of his country, the young African-American finished his final year of college, entered the seminary, was ordained
as a minister, and eventually became pastor of a large church in one of America's biggest cities.

This man is Rev. Jeremiah Wright, the retiring pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ

Follow the Money: Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? Part 3
Before: For some time RezkoWatch has been asking about the April 1, 2004, private dinner reception at Chicago's Four Seasons hotel hosted by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich and the April 3, 2004, party held at the house of its host, indicted political fixer Antoin "Tony" Rezko (see here and here)—both held in honor of Iraqi-British billionaire businessman Nadhmi Auchi—and whether Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) was in attendance at the events.

In his April 14, 2008, testimony in Tony Rezko's federal fraud trial, Stuart Levine said that both Sen. Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, were at the party. Levine's testimony was confirmed the following day by another source, Lt. Gov. Pat Quinn, who had attended the party at Rezko's house.

On April 16, 2008, Chicago Times reporter Michael Sneed reported that he had a "source" who claimed that not only did Sen. Obama give a "big welcome" to Mr. Auchi, Rezko's guest of honor, but that Sen. Obama also "made a few toasts!"

After: Now, Chicago Tribune reporter John McCormick writes that in an April 25, 2008, interview Sen. Obama didn't deny the "assertion" by Levine, the "government's star witness in the Rezko trial, about the party honoring Nadhmi Auchi, a British citizen who is appealing a fraud conviction in France. Obama said he didn't recall the event."

"I mean this has been, I guess, four years ago," he said. "My understanding, through his lawyer, Mr. Auchi doesn't recall meeting me."

Asked if he thought Rezko may have been using him to impress potential investors, Obama replied: "I just don't have a recollection of the event. As I said, I was in the middle of running a U.S. Senate race. So, you know, I was speaking all the time, probably six, seven, eight times a day."

McCormick is as equally mystified as RezkoWatch:

Why, just weeks after winning the Democratic U.S. Senate primary in 2004, would Barack Obama attend a party for a controversial Iraqi-born billionaire whom Rezko was trying to lure into an investment?

Why indeed!

Hallelujah and Amen! What a triumph for our cherished First Amendment freedoms! A cerebral conversation between two great Americans, Bill Moyers and Rev. Wright while displaying Rev. Wright's sermons in context. Hopefully this will stop the vulgar misrepresentation of Rev. Wright and Senator Obama!

In AMERICAN - HOME OF THE BRAVE AND LAND OF THE FREE, there is a Constitutional separation of church and state. Rev. Wright is in his country, in his church, using his cherished First Amendment freedoms for which his people fought, sacrificed and died. Any insidious ingrate that cannot display reverence and respect for our cherished First Amendment freedoms and for those who sacrificed so much for them don't deserve to live in Rev. Wright's country.

Ignorance and racism are synonymous! America's greatest sin is slavery! The most silent places during slavery were the white churches in the south. Those who display such a virulent lack of respect for our most PATRIOTIC Americans obviously are not aware of themany sacrifices African Americans have made for this country.

Senator Obama gave a speech in Philadelphia. Pa. where the founding of our country was born that would have made the founding fathers very proud. Ronald Reagan gave a speech in Philadelphia, Miss. where his "southern strategy" was born and where three civil rights workers were brutally murdered which would have horrified our founding fathers!

The public has aright to the truth.Whatever that is in order to make an educated decision...Obama connected to Wright (lunatic) Ayers, a terrorist,Farrakhan whom his church honored and printed HAMAS material..In political corruption with REZKO, ..By the way there are several complete sermons available for purchase of Rev Wright...each one is more dispicable than the last...not just sound bites..he is a racist..so is Obama and his wife..who wrote a racist thesis at princeton...and the lies go on and on...It's downright scary...Country first, If you want change take a look at SEnator Obamas Sen District in Chicago....Slums on top of slums..yes this is the change we want..He didn't help his own people. How will he help anyone else..He is not what he would have you to believe..the public has a right to know..

I am a proud Black man that will not vote for a man who will throw his own people away like Senator Obama did. He looked at the poles and kicked him to the curb. Rev. Wright a man who converted him to Christianity, mentored him and was a father to him. Rev. Wright did not say anything different in his speach. In Detroit he said the same things too. The only difference in any of Rev. Wrights words is he told one more truth. Obama is a politician and looks at things from that way. Obama saw that the polls look bad so he spoke out aginst Rev. Wright and has now put pressure on him to go away. Rev. Wright was loyal to him for many years Obama was loyal so long as the polls were good.

Obama's dirty laundry in making it out of the cellar. Did he learn this from Rev. Wright, taking down a black female stateswoman?

The day after New Year's 1996, operatives for Barack Obama filed into a barren hearing room of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners.

There they began the tedious process of challenging hundreds of signatures on the nominating petitions of state Sen. Alice Palmer, the longtime progressive activist from the city's South Side. And they kept challenging petitions until every one of Obama's four Democratic primary rivals was forced off the ballot...

...Obama quickly mastered the bare-knuckle arts of Chicago electoral politics. His overwhelming legal onslaught signaled his impatience to gain office, even if that meant elbowing aside a black elder stateswoman like Palmer.
