More on Duke's 'rush to judgment'

When Mike Skube was Raleigh correspondent for the Winston-Salem Journal, he was a crackerjack reporter who came up with a series of good stories about an overly-ambitious flunky in the Jim Hunt political machine who wrote some nasty memos about other state politicians and their helpers. And when Skube was books editor of The News & Observer of Raleigh, his pointed columns – sometimes on books, sometimes not – were don’t-miss reads. He won the Pulitzer Prize for criticism while at the N&O.
Now Skube is teaching journalism at Elon University but his opining hasn’t skipped a beat. He still lives in Durham, and the other day published a column in the Los Angeles Times on the controversy in Durham over charges that three Duke lacrosse players had raped an exotic dancer they hired for a team party. The rape charges have been dismissed, though other serious charges are still pending. Here’s a link to Skube’s commentary.

Simple public apologies would be very appropriate. I suppose, however, that such repentence could be used against them in civil actions. Maybe the lacrosse team should walk around campus beating their own pots and pans.

LOOk as a Northerner this kind of treatment is out right Bigotry; Look we understand a complaint made ,but by a strip dancer. Alan Gell was another example of Northern Bigotry; why two know drug users and prostitutes were States witness to a murder trial. Back in Ohio where I am from both of those cases would hit a scrupulous eye coming from People who are breaking the law. Most North Carolinians I have met are great exagerators , even Southern Law enforcement has told me this. But whatever Ohio has liars also thats why I moved from there. Theres liars in Washington. If Jesus comes bck we are all going to HELL .

My last Boss from N.C. told me to watch who you associate with down here; People are in trouble with the law and you chum up to them and they are told to sqeaul like a pig on someone for their sins; Thats how you end up in trouble in N.C. so have People checked out before you date them or play poker or drink fire water.

Maybe if Mr. Nifong tatooed a public apology across his forehead to wear the rest of his life it might be appropriate.
